Zuckerberg pitches open-weight AI as Meta releases Muse Glimmer

·1 min read

Mark Zuckerberg outlined a sweeping vision for AI as Meta released Muse Glimmer, a new open-weight model designed to compete with products from Anthropic and OpenAI. His post, titled The Future is for Everyone, ran more than 6,000 words and presented personalized superintelligence as a technology that should be broadly available rather than controlled by a small group of companies, governments or experts.

Zuckerberg argued for free-to-download, open-weight models and against broad government regulation, putting Meta at odds with OpenAI and Anthropic, which have warned that open-source AI can be dangerous and have kept their most advanced systems proprietary. He framed Meta’s approach as a way to create a balance of power among states, companies and individuals, with users able to shape the values of their own AI agents.

The Meta chief also called for faster datacenter construction and said the company would invest more in communities near its infrastructure projects, citing Louisiana teachers who received a $50,000 bonus check from increased sales tax revenue. On risks including cybersecurity, job losses, autonomous weapons and surveillance, he offered limited detail while warning that slowing American model releases could help China move ahead.
