Yubico expands YubiKey passkey features for authorization

·1 min read

Yubico has made YubiKey 5.8 generally available, extending its passkey technology beyond secure authentication into verifiable, hardware-backed authorization. The firmware is designed to support enterprise workflows such as identity wallets, document signing, and AI-driven approvals.

The release targets a broader security challenge as generative and agentic AI enable faster automated cyberattacks. Yubico positions YubiKey 5.8 as a way for organizations to verify not only who signs in, but what actions a user or autonomous AI agent is permitted to perform across complex, multienvironment systems.
