Valve open-sources Lepton for Steam Frame Android games

·1 min read

Valve has made Lepton, the compatibility layer designed to let Steam Frame run Android games, open-source following the official launch of the Steam Frame. Lepton was formally announced in March 2026 alongside the Steam Frame Verified program requirements, and the project is now available through Valve’s GitLab repository.

Lepton is aimed primarily at helping developers bring VR Android games to Steam Frame, while Valve notes that other uses are possible but were not the focus of development and may be less polished. The project draws on components from Waydroid, Anbox, Halium, and Hybris, combines Valve’s own code with parts of the AOSP, mounts host system libraries such as graphics drivers, Steam libraries, and Vulkan layers, and removes some Android components to improve efficiency.
