Trump announces ‘Super Intelligence Force’ task force

·1 min read

President Donald Trump announced the creation of a “Super Intelligence Force” to coordinate federal efforts to maintain American leadership in AI while protecting national interests. The group will organize government engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical infrastructure providers and companies developing super intelligence.

Trump did not outline specific actions or oversight powers for the task force, and the White House did not immediately respond to a request for more information. The announcement followed a White House meeting with technology executives, where Trump said he and six companies signed a “constitution” establishing standards for self-policing their technology. Some tech CEOs have called for federal regulation amid concerns about AI development.

The task force will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. Clayton, who is expected to become the White House’s AI czar, said the group would examine existing law and discuss potential congressional action. He cited financial-industry risk models as a possible reference and argued that U.S. leadership would improve the country’s ability to address threats from adversaries.
