Tomen Devices backs Rebellions chips for Japan AI buildout
Rebellions signed an MOU with Tomen Devices to distribute and promote its inference NPU products in Japan, adding a major local channel for enterprise and government data center sales. Tomen has distributed Samsung semiconductor products since its founding in 1992, giving the Korean startup access to an established procurement network tied closely to Japan’s chip-buying ecosystem.
The partnership comes as Japan pursues $135 billion in combined public and private investment for sovereign AI infrastructure while Nvidia retains over 90 percent of the global data center GPU market. The economics of filling data centers with Nvidia servers have pushed Japanese buyers to examine alternatives, and Tomen had already conducted proof-of-concept tests of Rebellions servers with a local Japanese AI company before signing the agreement.
Rebellions is pitching Rebel100 and RebelRack as inference-focused systems designed around memory bandwidth rather than general GPU compute. The company says RebelRack delivers 3.2 times the tokens per second per watt of an Nvidia H100 under inference-optimized conditions, but the claim remains vendor-reported and Rebel100 had not been submitted to MLPerf as of October 2026. Rebellions also has a September 2026 neocloud deal in Japan to supply more than 100 units, giving the Tomen agreement a second route into live infrastructure.
