Stanford scientists report AI-designed viruses

Scientists from Stanford University said AI has successfully designed whole genomes for the first time, enabling the creation of new viruses. They described the development as a “significant turning point” that could support new drugs and treatments, while critics warned that the technology could also cause harm.
