SEGA pulls Shogun 2 remaster after player backlash

·1 min read

SEGA is withdrawing Total War Shogun 2: Complete Edition from all storefronts, at least temporarily, just 48 hours after launch. The remake of the 2011 RTS classic received poor reviews and player feedback, prompting the publisher to acknowledge in a post on X that it had “fallen short of both your expectations and our own standards.”

The game’s review score stood at 15% shortly after release. Player complaints focused on extensive AI use in unit cards, poor performance, graphical bugs and interface design. Players also criticized an apparent lack of overall care and polish.

Once the remaster is removed, the original Total War: Shogun 2 will be reinstated and available to purchase and play. Existing owners of the remaster will still be able to play it. SEGA says it is investigating the problems and will identify and correct the issues raised by players.
