OpenAI tests GPT-Red as heat pumps gain ground in US

OpenAI has developed GPT-Red, an LLM designed to act as a super-hacker and sparring partner for its other models. The system automates red-teaming, a safety evaluation process normally handled by human testers, with the goal of finding ways to break into or hijack software systems before attackers do.

Heat pumps are continuing to rise in the US because they use electricity for heating and are highly efficient. Their sales have doubled over the past 15 years, according to a new report, and they outpaced natural-gas furnaces by 32% during the first quarter of 2026, even as a key tax credit for the appliances has ended.

Other technology developments include Elon Musk’s acquisition of APR Energy in May to support Grok, a hack indicating Suno scraped YouTube and Deezer to train AI music models, and Thinking Machines’ launch of its first open-weight AI model. Robotics firm Prosper is also developing Alfie, a humanoid designed for homes, hospitals, and hotels, with trustworthiness positioned as its central design challenge.
