Montage starts trial production of CXL 3.2 memory expander chip
Montage Technology has entered trial production of its CXL 3.2 Memory eXpander Controller chip, which it describes as the industry’s first device of its kind at this stage. The MXC chip targets memory expansion and resource pooling for AI, cloud computing, and data center environments, giving customers a way to build memory infrastructure with higher capacity, better resource utilization, and more flexibility.
The controller complies with CXL Type 3 specifications and supports both CXL.mem and CXL.io protocols. It is designed for PCIe 6.x and CXL 3.2, with data transfer rates of up to 64 GT/s, and integrates dual DDR5 memory controllers that support up to 8000 MT/s DDR5 memory. Montage says the chip converts host-side CXL memory requests into DDR commands in real time, enabling data exchange between the host and backend memory and helping servers move beyond traditional memory capacity limits.
