Microsoft brings Mistral models to its European cloud portfolio

Microsoft is expanding its strategic partnership with France-based Mistral to broaden European AI infrastructure and add Mistral models across Microsoft Foundry, Copilot Studio, Azure and the wider Microsoft platform. Microsoft vice chair and president Brad Smith said the move is intended to give Europe access to capable AI while preserving control over data, operations and digital futures.

The agreement will combine Mistral’s frontier models with Microsoft’s security, compliance and cloud-to-edge platform, giving customers more choice in where and how they deploy AI. Microsoft described the expansion as a “multi-billion dollar agreement” supporting its European Digital Commitments announced in 2025, while Mistral will add GPU capacity by purchasing “thousands” of the latest NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs.

Mistral Medium 3.5 and OCR 4 are now available in Microsoft Foundry, and Medium 3.5 is available in Copilot Studio. Financial services, manufacturing, healthcare and other regulated businesses can run Mistral-based AI applications in Azure or Azure Local, including public cloud, cloud-connected and fully disconnected environments.
