Intel Panther Lake reportedly reaches 80% yield on 18A
Intel’s latest Panther Lake SoC has reportedly achieved an 80% yield with a compute tile built on the company’s 18A node, marking continued improvement for Intel Foundry. The compute die measures approximately 8.004 x 14.288 mm, for a silicon area of 114.304 mm², and yields around 80% suggest both low defect rates and strong parametric yield, with many dies retaining all functioning elements.
The reported progress aligns with a rumored shift in Nova Lake production strategy. Intel plans to manufacture the majority of Nova Lake compute tiles internally, with about 80-90% produced by Intel Foundry and the remainder handled by TSMC under a dual-sourcing approach. For a mature node like 18A, defect rates are described as low, around D0=0.1 or D0=0.2, and Intel may be approaching the lower end after months of high-volume Panther Lake production.
