Instagram users can limit Muse Image reuse

·1 min read

Meta’s Muse Image tool has been rolled out on Instagram with settings that can allow publicly posted images to be reused for AI-powered edits. The tool can edit and generate photorealistic images, creating concerns that photos could be altered without adequate safeguards, especially in cases involving women and teenagers.

The controls are available inside Instagram’s “Sharing and reuse” settings, but the placement may make them easy to miss. Users can opt out by opening the section for “Allow people to reuse your content on Instagram and with AI features of Meta” and disabling the toggles for “Posts” and “Reels.”

Instagram also provides a separate sharing control in the same settings area. Users who want tighter restrictions can turn off “Allow people to share your posts and reels,” limiting how others circulate their content within the platform.
