HPE showcases Cray GX5000 supercomputer with AMD EPYC chips

HPE showcased the HPE Cray Supercomputing GX5000 at AMD Advancing AI 2026 in San Francisco, pairing its latest supercomputing platform with 6th Gen AMD EPYC processors. The system builds on earlier HPE supercomputing architecture that broke the exascale speed barrier and is positioned for complex scientific and engineering workloads involving AI and quantum computing.

The GX5000 is designed to increase rack-level density and operational efficiency for expanding HPC and AI deployments. HPE says the system delivers 40% more AMD EPYC 9996 cores per rack than the market’s next densest offering, while using 25% less floor space compared with the previous generation. Its next-generation direct-liquid cooling capabilities also raise warm facility water by 25%, with up to 40C heating capacity.
