Google previews Googlebook and new Gemini features for Android

Google used The Android Show: I/O Edition ahead of Google I/O 2026 on May 19 to preview Android updates that put Gemini across phones, laptops, cars, and Chrome. The biggest hardware reveal was Googlebook, a new Gemini-focused laptop class from Google and partners including Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Acer, though no release window or pricing was shared.

Googlebook introduces Magic Pointer, an AI-powered cursor that suggests actions based on what a user hovers over, such as creating a meeting from a date in an email. The devices will also run apps installed on an Android phone without extra downloads or awkward touchscreen controls, and include a rear Glowbar that lights up in Google’s logo colors.

Android Auto is getting Material 3 Expressive personalization, custom widgets, a more three-dimensional Google Maps view, lane awareness, and YouTube video support in supported parked vehicles at full HD, 60 frames per second. Gemini additions include voice-based DoorDash ordering and Magic Cue context for text-message replies.

New Gemini Intelligence features coming over the rest of 2026 will automate multi-step tasks on recent Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices, then expand to cars, watches, laptops, and smart glasses. Google also announced Rambler speech-to-text cleanup, mobile form filling, Create My Widget, Pause Point app delays for 10 seconds, Screen Reactions for Pixel creators, Instagram Ultra HDR tools, Adobe Premiere for Android, and more Gemini support in Chrome.
