Fujifilm to expand magnetic tape production
Fujifilm will invest approximately 10 billion yen at its Kanagawa Factory, Odawara Site, to increase production capacity for data storage magnetic tape by approximately five times. The investment, planned from fiscal 2026 through fiscal 2028, will fund expanded manufacturing facilities and additional personnel. The expansion is intended to strengthen the company’s ability to maintain a stable supply as demand for data archiving grows.
Generative AI and cloud services are driving growth in the volume of data generated worldwide, increasing the need for secure, efficient storage. That includes data accumulated through AI training and inference, alongside the digitalization of business activities. Magnetic tape supports long-term storage of large data volumes at low cost and can be physically isolated from networks, making it an option for meeting those archiving needs.
