EU sets out plan for AI-driven cybersecurity risks

The European Commission has presented an Action Plan on Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence to coordinate Europe’s response to the risks and opportunities created by advanced AI models. The plan focuses on how AI is changing cybersecurity, including its potential misuse to identify vulnerabilities, automate attacks and increase the scale and speed of cyber incidents.

The initiative builds on the EU’s existing legal framework for AI and cybersecurity and is intended to connect Member States, industry and EU-level organisations. Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, said the EU must use its capabilities, networks and legal framework to strengthen the protections around Europe’s digital landscape as emerging technologies create new vulnerabilities.
