EU sets binding DMA measures for Google

The European Commission issued two binding specification measures for Google under the Digital Markets Act, targeting Android AI interoperability and Google Search data sharing. One measure aims to ensure rival AI services can access features on Google’s Android devices on equal terms with Google’s own AI services, including Gemini.

The second measure is intended to provide third-party search engines with access to search data that the Commission says only Google Search can collect at scale. Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera said the decision would help smaller competitors, search engines and AI assistants compete while protecting user privacy. Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen said the goal is to support innovation and diversity in the European Union and encourage alternatives to Google Search and Google’s AI services, including Gemini, giving EU users greater choice.
