Epic outlines Unreal Engine 6 plans with Verse and generative AI

·1 min read

Epic developer Marcus Wassmer outlined plans for Unreal Engine 6, describing a unified product that brings together Unreal Engine 5 and the Unreal Editor for Fortnite. The roadmap also introduces Verse, a new programming language designed for massive persistent game worlds, and Scene Graph, a gameplay framework intended to support the next version of the engine.

Unreal Engine 6 is also expected to incorporate generative AI and LLMs more deeply into development workflows. Wassmer referenced tools including Claude and Codex, and described an open Unreal Engine 6 MCP foundation that would let developers mix and match leading models and build custom integrations.

Epic also plans to treat formats such as glTF as first-class formats and publish open specifications covering Verse APIs and asset conventions. The direction points to a broader push for interoperability across engines, marketplaces and live-service platforms, though no firm release date for Unreal Engine 6 has been reported.
