Emory and Georgia Tech put more than $1 billion into AI
Emory University and Georgia Tech are investing more than $1 billion in AI to expand Atlanta’s research base, workforce pipeline and economic development prospects. The combined commitment includes approximately $600 million from Emory and more than $575 million from Georgia Tech, with collaboration planned across research partnerships, talent development, industry engagement and AI-enabled innovation.
Georgia Tech’s work centers on advanced computing, AI discovery and workforce development, including infrastructure in Tech Square, a campuswide computing platform and the Nexus AI supercomputer. Its AI Makerspace gives more than 6,000 students each year hands-on experience. Emory’s investments focus on talent, healthcare innovation and applications in medicine, business, law, the humanities and ethics, including its AI.Humanity initiative with more than 250 faculty members and AI.Health work tied to three spinoff companies and 40 licensed technologies.
The effort also extends beyond campus through continuing education, K-12 pathways, free AI training and manufacturing initiatives. Georgia Tech leads Georgia AIM, backed by nearly $100 million in federal, state and private support, while Atlanta leaders are pursuing a goal of becoming a top five technology and entrepreneurship hub.
