·1 min read

C3 AI board member Jim Hagemann Snabe has been appointed by the European Commission as Special Envoy for Industrial Artificial Intelligence, advising Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen. Snabe will take a leave of absence from his C3 AI board seat and from his role as special advisor to Chairman and CEO Thomas M. Siebel for the duration of the appointment.

The unpaid role runs through March 31, 2027. Snabe is expected to advise on the industrial AI ecosystem, including AI infrastructure such as data centers, high-performance computing and semiconductor supply chains; foundational technologies such as large language models and generative AI; and AI deployment across industrial sectors. He will produce an evidence-based, forward-looking report to support the Commission’s work.

Snabe is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Siemens AG and serves on the boards of C3 AI, Bloom Energy and Temasek, as well as the Board of Trustees of the World Economic Forum. His past roles include co-CEO of SAP, Chairman of A.P. Møller-Maersk and Vice Chairman of Allianz SE. C3 AI said he is expected to resume his company roles after his Commission service concludes.
