ASRock TempGuard missed a PSU-side connector meltdown

A repair shop technician reported another melted 16-pin power connector involving an ASRock Taichi TC-1650T PSU paired with an NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Workstation Edition GPU. The failure occurred on the power supply side, where the connector melted into the socket, while the GPU reportedly survived and the damage was limited to the PSU end.

The ASRock unit ships with native 12V-2×6 cables that include the company’s NTC temperature sensor and TempGuard protection system. According to the technician, both ends of the cable were fully seated, but the sensor appeared to be mounted on the wrong side of the cable, on the ground line rather than the 12 V side it is meant to monitor.

TempGuard was designed to shut down a system before a connector overheats, and it has reportedly worked before, including on a shunt-modded RTX 5090 pulling over 1,300 W. A similar melting incident involving the same GPU and PSU pairing surfaced in March, making the reported sensor placement a broader concern if it affects more than one cable.
