·1 min read

ASML says it currently has no chipmaking-machine sales in Europe because new semiconductor factories are not being built on the continent. Frank Heemskerk, the Dutch company’s executive responsible for global public affairs, said Europe is not investing enough in semiconductor manufacturing, while the US, China, and India are seeking to attract semiconductor investment.

A UCLA working paper found no statistically significant evidence that AI has increased unemployment among recent US college graduates in jobs considered vulnerable to automation. The unemployment rate for college graduates aged 22 to 25 stood at 7.3% during June, July, and August, higher than a year earlier but within the normal range of variation.

India continues to draw major technology commitments as companies expand AI, cloud and data center infrastructure, with Microsoft, Amazon and Google among firms building capabilities in the country. Algorand’s ALGO token has gained nearly 72% over six weeks, while OpenAI canceled the planned October launch of GPT-6.1 Astra after safety testing found issues involving authorization, transparency and external tool use.
