Aon launches AI risk tool as insurers scrutinize governance
Aon has launched an AI Risk Diagnostic to help organizations assess governance maturity and exposure as insurers increasingly scrutinize how companies oversee AI. Developed by Aon’s Global Risk Consulting team, the enterprise-level tool evaluates AI governance, maturity, and risk exposure against frameworks including ISO standards, the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology AI Risk Management Framework.
The diagnostic uses an AI Maturity Analysis to review governance, lifecycle management, processes, and controls, alongside an AI Risk Taxonomy Analysis that identifies where AI may create new risks or amplify existing exposures. Clients receive reporting on maturity, governance gaps, priority actions, visual dashboards, heat maps, and risk exposure mapping, with recommendations aimed at strengthening governance, controls, compliance, and resilience.
Willis research found that firms without documented AI governance frameworks now face coverage denials at renewal. Professional liability carriers are moving away from silent AI assumptions by requiring affirmative warranties or applying absolute exclusions, while potential exposure spans cyber, professional indemnity, errors and omissions, product liability, and D&O. The EU AI Act’s high-risk obligations take effect in August 2026, adding a compliance deadline to the governance pressure.
