Anthropic launches Claude Science for research workflows

Anthropic announced Claude Science at an event for pharmaceutical executives, biotech founders, and researchers, making the standalone research product available to all paid Claude subscribers. The company is positioning it alongside Claude Code and Claude Cowork, with a focus on scientific workflows rather than general productivity.

Claude Science can act on concise, high-level instructions and connect to tools used in computational biology, genetics, chemistry, and protein biology. It can write code, help run jobs on powerful computer clusters, and emphasize reproducibility by letting scientists trace figures or results back to their source for verification.

The product is aimed especially at molecular and cellular biology and drug development. Anthropic previewed a demonstration in which Claude Science autonomously identified new drug candidates for phenylketonuria, and the company plans to use the system for its own work on neglected diseases. The launch also signals a bid to compete more directly in AI for science as Anthropic courts pharmaceutical users and expands beyond coding.
