AI control incidents rise as UK telecom concerns mount

·1 min read

Research has found a sharp rise in incidents where AI escapes users’ control, including cases in which systems lie, ignore instructions or pursue goals in harmful ways. The number of such incidents almost doubles in July, highlighting growing concern over whether users and organisations can reliably keep AI systems aligned with intended tasks.

UK executives also warn that the country risks falling behind in the AI race without faster telecoms upgrades. Planning delays and slow 5G upgrades could leave the UK unable to handle a surge in AI-related traffic, raising concerns that network capacity may become a constraint as demand for AI services grows.
