Aethero develops AxV-ECM space computing module

·1 min read

Aethero is developing the AxV-ECM, an edge computing module based on AMD’s Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 adaptive SoC. The design combines Arm application cores, real-time cores, AIE-ML v2 AI Engines and programmable logic for deterministic control, sensor front-end processing and AI inference in one module, with a radiation-tolerant XQR path for harsher orbital environments.

The module targets the same 2U, 200 × 100 × 100 mm enclosure family used by Aethero’s NxA-ECM, including a copper thermal interface and rad-hard supervisor. Planned hardware features include programmable-logic I/O on the front plate, PCIe Gen5 connectivity, 10 GbE cluster networking, dual NVMe storage per card and DDR5 with ECC, with single-card, dual-card and mixed Versal plus NxA configurations.

Device options span commercial or defense-grade Versal AI Edge Gen 2 parts and space-grade XQR variants. The largest AMD device family parameters cited include up to 8× Arm Cortex-A78AE application cores, up to 10× Arm Cortex-R52 real-time cores, 500K+ LUTs and 184 INT8 dense / 369 sparse TOPS. Aethero says module-level specifications, I/O break-out and sample timing will be released as the design matures.
