Manulife pairs workforce-wide AI access with training and oversight
Manulife made generative AI tools available across its workforce from the outset, developing training, support and guardrails alongside their use rather than limiting access to specialist pilots. Employees can use Microsoft Copilot and ChatMFC, its internal GenAI chat assistant. The approach treats adoption primarily as a people transformation, giving colleagues opportunities to experiment and shape how the technology supports their work.
GenAI capabilities are available to 100% of Manulife’s workforce, and more than 82% of colleagues globally were actively using GenAI tools as of September 2026. Role-based training addresses different job requirements, while an AI Champions network helps employees share practical approaches across markets. Workshops, communities of practice and regular discussions in team and leadership meetings reinforce learning. The company also emphasizes psychological safety, encouraging basic questions, scrutiny of AI outputs and learning from mistakes.
Broad access is paired with governance covering how AI systems are assessed, approved, deployed and monitored. Manulife’s Responsible AI Principles require human oversight and additional review for higher-risk uses, with attention to privacy, transparency and accountability. Employees also receive guidance on where human judgment remains essential. Together, approved tools, continuous learning and clear safeguards are intended to support responsible experimentation and build confidence.
