Expedia brings ChatGPT trip planning to its app

·1 min read

Expedia announced a ChatGPT-powered travel planning tool on April 4, 2023, bringing conversational recommendations directly into its app. Travelers can ask about destinations, hotels, transportation, and activities. The integration also automatically favorites hotels recommended during a conversation, helping users move from exploring options to booking a trip.

The feature is available globally in beta on iOS. To try it, travelers can start a conversation with ChatGPT inside the Expedia app. The launch follows Expedia’s separate plugin for ChatGPT, which lets users plan trips on OpenAI’s site using Expedia’s travel data. Together, the integrations support travel planning and a path to booking through either service.

Rival travel company Kayak has also announced a ChatGPT plugin. Expedia’s rollout joins a broader wave of ChatGPT integrations across workplace tools and consumer apps, as companies use conversational AI to make their services easier and more convenient to navigate.
