Tetrate supports staged model switches without app changes

·1 min read

Tetrate Agent Router Enterprise lets teams switch between AI models without changing application code, using model aliases, traffic splitting, availability fallback and budget-triggered routing. Applications keep requesting a stable model name while operators change the underlying provider or model. Alias changes move all requests for that name immediately, while traffic splitting supports gradual testing.

For a controlled rollout, teams can send 5% of an API key’s requests to a smaller model and collect several hundred requests before comparing results. Request Logs capture the requested and served models alongside token usage, cost, latency and status. Each response also identifies the model that answered. Reviewers or evaluation tools must assess answer quality separately; routing metrics alone do not establish whether a replacement is suitable.

Teams can increase traffic when cost savings come with acceptable answers and error rates, or roll back when quality deteriorates. Availability fallback redirects requests after timeouts, rate limits or server errors, before a response begins. A separate budget control routes requests to a selected cheaper model when an API key exhausts its budget. Pairing that behavior with a higher hard-stop limit provides a firm spending ceiling.
