EU AI Act transparency duties depend on business roles

·1 min read

The EU AI Act’s Article 50 transparency rules have applied since 2 August 2026. They reach beyond technology companies to businesses and individuals using AI professionally in the EU, making the requirements relevant to organizations that use these tools in their everyday operations.

Compliance obligations depend on whether an organization acts as a deployer or a provider. Businesses using third-party AI tools are typically deployers. Those developing systems, or commissioning them under their own name, may also qualify as providers and face additional responsibilities under the rules.

Professional uses covered by the transparency requirements include marketing, customer service and content creation. Purely personal, non-professional use is excluded. The distinction between professional and personal use, alongside the organization’s role, determines how the requirements apply.
