Game Pass drove most Gears of War: E-Day revenue despite Steam sales
Alinea Analytics’s Rhys Elliott estimates that Gears of War: E-Day sold around 230,000 copies since launch, with Steam accounting for around 168,000 sales and Xbox contributing 62,000. Even with fewer direct purchases on Xbox, Microsoft’s platform reportedly represented almost three quarters of the game’s revenue.
Game Pass appears to have reshaped the launch economics. An estimated 1.7 million gamers played E-Day through an Xbox Game Pass subscription, while 722,000 subscribers paid for the Premium Edition Game Pass upgrade to access the game early. The figures suggest that subscription-linked spending outweighed Steam’s larger base of direct buyers.
