Micro Center reportedly adds ID checks for RTX 5090 sales

·1 min read

Micro Center may be requiring extra documentation for some RTX 5090 purchases, according to a Redditor who said they bought a PowerSpec AI90 prebuilt with an RTX 5090 at the retailer’s Tustin store. A manager reportedly asked the buyer to complete an ‘Advanced Computing Product Purchaser Declaration’ and scan their driver’s license, with staff describing the process as new and starting about two days earlier.

The form reportedly requests contact and ID details and includes the phrase ‘No exports, No exceptions.’ Buyers must certify that they will not export the hardware or resell it to someone who intends to take it outside the country. Micro Center has not officially commented on the reported incident or any wider rule.

The standard RTX 5090 is not intended for official sale in China under US export rules, and MSI previously said units appearing there came through unauthorized parallel imports. Rising prices and tight supply may also be relevant, with German listings recently passing €5,000, about 73% above January, while AI firms are reportedly buying RTX 5090 cards in bulk.
