Solidigm plans first US NAND fab

SK hynix subsidiary Solidigm is reportedly planning to open its first NAND Flash manufacturing facility in the United States as its parent company looks to expand production capabilities worldwide. The move is aimed at addressing global supply chain challenges and reducing exposure to geopolitical disruptions.

Solidigm already operates in the United States through its headquarters and R&D center, but all of its manufacturing is currently based outside the country. After SK hynix acquired Intel’s NAND Flash manufacturing business in 2021 and created the Solidigm brand, production continued in China without an overseas manufacturing expansion.

Solidigm currently operates Fab 1 in Dalian, China, and has accelerated construction of Fab 2 nearby. That project is intended to increase production by 50% by 2027 to meet rising demand for NAND Flash, while also marking renewed expansion in mainland China after a four-year project freeze.
