Schneider Electric expands in Querétaro as data center demand rises

·1 min read

Querétaro is emerging as a major data center hub as AI demand increases the need for electricity, cooling and power distribution. The International Energy Agency estimates global electricity consumption by data centers will nearly double from approximately 485TWh in 2025 to around 950TWh by 2030, with AI-oriented facilities expected to grow faster.

CBRE said installed data center capacity in Queretaro reached approximately 298.2MW in the first quarter of 2026, a 450.2% year-on-year increase and the highest growth rate among major Latin American markets it analyzed. AWS and Microsoft already have cloud infrastructure in Querétaro, and CloudHQ announced a US$4.8 billion investment in 2025 to develop six data centers in Queretaro.

Schneider Electric’s expansion in Queretaro shows how European industrial companies can benefit from AI’s infrastructure needs. Announced in August 2026, the French company’s project includes three industrial facilities, approximately 115,000 square meters of industrial infrastructure and production of electrical distribution solutions, critical energy infrastructure equipment and customized engineer-to-order systems for sectors including data centers.

Schneider says AI-related workloads can currently reach approximately 30 to 80kW per rack, increasing pressure on power and cooling systems. The company expects to operate 12 manufacturing plants in Mexico after the expansion, with more than 4,000 direct jobs by the end of 2027 and approximately 8,000 indirect jobs tied to its growth in Querétaro.
