Arm pushes Neoverse CSS N4 into AI server orchestration
Arm unveiled Neoverse CSS N4, codenamed Ranger, as the next generation of its semi-custom server platform for partners building custom data center chips. The N-series design moves Arm’s efficiency-focused server roadmap into the 3nm era with a per-die ceiling of 128 cores, LPDDR6 memory support and PCIe Gen 7 connectivity, targeting scale-out cloud, networking and agentic AI infrastructure rather than peak-throughput host CPUs.
CSS N4 provides a pre-validated bundle of Neoverse N4 cores, coherent mesh interconnect, memory controllers and I/O fabric that customers can configure. Designs range from 8 to 128 cores per die at up to 3.8 GHz, with 2 MB of private L2 cache per core and up to 256 MB of shared L3 cache. The platform supports DDR5, MRDIMM and LPDDR6, plus up to 128 lanes of PCIe 7.0 or 6.0 and CXL 4.0.
Arm is positioning the platform for the CPU-side orchestration layer in agentic AI racks, where chips manage scheduling, data movement and communication around accelerator clusters. Samsung Electronics’ SF2 and SF2P foundry processes are supported alongside TSMC’s N3P, and Hongjun Microelectronics has been named among the first adopters. Arm also confirmed Oracle and ByteDance’s Volcano Engine as customers for its separate AGI CPU.
