CXMT starts mass production of LPDDR6 memory

CXMT has officially begun high-volume manufacturing of LPDDR6 memory, placing its modules among the first in the industry as South Korean memory makers pursue a similar production timeline. Xiaomi is reportedly the first customer for the domestic LPDDR6 chips, which are set to be used in the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Fold smartphone.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold is scheduled to launch in September, meaning CXMT would need to deliver the memory before the end of the month and suggesting customer shipments are already underway. The move follows recent reports that CXMT had entered LPDDR6 risk production, pointing to a very high production yield.

CXMT’s LPDDR6 memory is designed to run at speeds of up to 12.8 Gbps, above the LPDDR6 base speed of 10.7 Gbps and beyond highly overclocked LPDDR5X. The first-generation chips from CXMT’s fabs reach 12.8 Gbps, with 16 Gb capacity, equivalent to 2 GB, in a package-on-package casing with about 1,295 pins in a ball grid array.
