AIGreenBots advances agricultural robotics for precision farming
AIGreenBots is a Doctoral Network focused on developing the next generation of intelligent AI-based agricultural robotics for precision agriculture. The project responds to growing pressure on farming systems to produce more food for people and animals while facing limited natural resources, critical water constraints and climate change impacts.
The programme connects precision agriculture with robotics, remote sensing, AI/ML, sensor fusion, IoT, data-driven models and agricultural science. Its research priorities include new field robotic platforms, multi-sensor perception using cameras, LiDARs and GNSS-IMU, reliable ML capabilities, decision-making for real-world agricultural conditions, and safety-legal operation in the field.
Training is central to the network, with doctoral candidates gaining research and transferable skills through collaborations involving academic institutions, SMEs, agriculture stakeholders and living labs across five countries. The Horizon MSCA-DC project includes 11 individual research projects (IRPs), covering topics such as probabilistic robotic perception, sensing fusion, self-diagnosis, edge AI, adaptive vehicle coordination and collaborative environment sensing.
