Doctors warn of AI scams targeting testosterone searches

·1 min read

Patients searching online for health answers are being warned to think carefully before trusting medical advice on social media. Interest in testosterone-related health topics is rising, with Feel30 reporting Google searches for “low testosterone” now exceed 1.2 million a month and searches for “TRT for men” increased by 94% year-to-year.

Separate Google search analysis using Glimpse found searches for “AI doctor” surged by 842% compared with the past year, with 866,000 searches recorded in the past month alone. Experts warn that generative AI can create convincing videos, voices and endorsements that appear to feature real clinicians, including deepfakes used to promote unproven supplements, counterfeit medications and fake hormone treatments.

Feel30 Clinical Advisor Anneliese Cadena said a realistic video can falsely show a trusted medical professional discussing symptoms or recommending treatment. She emphasized that testosterone replacement therapy requires blood tests, a full medical assessment and ongoing monitoring, and warned against sites promising quick results, guaranteed eligibility or urgent purchases.

Consumers are advised to question ads that use famous doctors without clinic links, guarantee dramatic testosterone or muscle gains, claim everyone above a certain age needs treatment, use countdown timers or “today only” offers, or sell medication without explaining assessment and blood testing.
