EU transparency code gains support before AI Act obligations begin

·1 min read

The Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-generated Content has drawn strong support ahead of the AI Act’s marking obligations taking effect on August 2, 2026. About 190 organisations across IT, telecom, education, retail and other sectors signed by the end of July 2026, including a large share of small and recent companies.

The code sets out measures to help providers and deployers of generative AI systems comply with legal duties to mark and label AI-generated content. Drafted by independent experts and assessed as adequate by the Commission and the AI Board, it is intended to provide a more predictable compliance path regardless of where an organisation operates or which supervisory authority is responsible.

The framework includes Section 1 for providers and Section 2 for deployers, with stakeholders invited to sign the parts relevant to their activities. Prominent signatories include Aleph Alpha, Anthropic, Black Forest Labs, Cohere, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Mistral and Synthesia for Section 1, while Section 2 examples include Bulgari, Fastweb, Getty Images, Iberdrola, Lenovo and Lufthansa.

Signatories will be invited to join two task forces launching in September 2026 to share best practices, provide feedback on transparency measures and support implementation of the code.
