The European Union is preparing to hold its first dedicated leaders’ summit discussion on AI before year-end, according to Politico. The planned session would elevate AI to the European Council agenda at a time when technology sovereignty is gaining urgency across the bloc.

European Council President António Costa is planning to reserve one day at one of three upcoming meetings for the discussion. The move would make AI a standalone strategic topic for EU leaders rather than a secondary issue within a broader technology or competitiveness agenda.
