Cerebras leads the AI chip startup race

·1 min read

Cerebras is the clear leader among startup-origin AI chip companies, with a commercial business, audited filings, major customers and delivery capacity that private rivals have not matched. Its latest SEC-filed quarter showed $193.4 million in revenue, up 94% from a year earlier, while cloud and services revenue rose 178%.

The company’s lead rests on more than benchmark performance. Cerebras has a multi-year OpenAI agreement covering 750 megawatts and valued at more than $20 billion, while Amazon Web Services is integrating Cerebras inference into its cloud. Its platform combines hardware sales, hosted capacity and a manufacturing expansion designed to support large-scale deployments.

Groq ranks as the strongest private challenger because of its visible developer adoption and multi-region GroqCloud footprint, but it has not disclosed revenue. SambaNova brings mature enterprise systems, fresh funding and a JPMorganChase deployment, while Etched has working silicon and more than $1 billion in signed contracts but still needs to prove volume delivery. Tenstorrent, FuriosaAI, Rebellions, d-Matrix and edge specialists such as Hailo remain credible, though the evidence behind their commercial scale is less complete.
