Intel commits 14A to risk production in second half of 2027

·1 min read

Intel is moving ahead with a faster schedule for its 14A manufacturing node after reporting one of its largest quarterly growth results and strong cash flow for Q2 2026. CEO Lip-Bu Tan said the company remains on track for 14A risk production for internal products in the second half of 2027, with a full commitment made in Q2 to a high-volume ramp in 2028.

The timeline is described as a full year ahead of earlier expectations and would position Intel to use the node for its own products while also serving external customers interested in Intel manufacturing and advanced packaging. The plan signals confidence in both customer interest and internal product demand.

Intel’s 14A defect rate is currently reported at D0=0.5, meaning production defects are occurring at a rate of only 0.5. A Panther Lake compute tile example would yield 56.45% for a die size of 114.304 mm². Intel is targeting D0=0.1, which would raise yields to 80-90% before high-volume production begins in 2028.
