Pangram finds AI-written posts widespread on LinkedIn and X

Pangram, an AI detection platform, said social feeds are heavily populated with AI-written material based on data from users of its Chrome extension. The extension scans LinkedIn, Medium, Substack, X, and Reddit feeds, and the company analyzed more than one million posts shared by opted-in users.

Longform posts were the clearest hotspot. With longform content defined as anything over 250 words, Pangram found that 25 percent of posts across the studied platforms were fully AI-generated. LinkedIn led with 41 percent of longform posts flagged as fully AI-written, while 30 percent of posts between 50 and 250 words were also fully written by AI. Pangram estimated that only 55.2 percent of LinkedIn longform posts were written by humans.

X showed a high level of AI involvement when assisted writing was included, with 23.2 percent of posts believed to have AI help and 52.7 percent attributed to humans. Medium had roughly one in three posts likely written by or with AI, while Substack was lower at 21.9 percent. Reddit looked less affected overall, with 11.6 percent of posts AI-authored or assisted and 98.1 percent of comments classified as human-written.
