Alibaba aligns AI teams for faster growth

·1 min read

Alibaba reported progress across its AI strategy in the first half of 2026, combining organisational changes, model releases and cloud expansion as enterprises move from experimentation to wider deployment. Alibaba Cloud now operates 105 availability zones across 32 regions, with full-stack capabilities spanning proprietary chips, cloud infrastructure, foundation models and applications.

In March, the company created the Alibaba Token Hub Business Group under Chief Executive Officer Eddie Wu, bringing together Tongyi Laboratory, the MaaS Business Line, the Qwen Business Unit, the Wukong Business Unit and the AI Innovation Business Unit. The group is organised around creating, delivering and applying tokens. Alibaba also introduced Qwen3.7-Max for agentic coding, complex reasoning and long-horizon execution, alongside new video generation and interactive world model capabilities.

Alibaba expanded its cloud footprint as part of a US$53 billion AI infrastructure commitment, adding data centres in Japan, Malaysia, France and Mexico. The company also highlighted healthcare screening tools from DAMO Academy for fatty liver disease and colorectal cancer, plus a partnership with Muyuan Group to build an intelligent swine-farming AI model using Qwen and Alibaba Cloud computing capabilities.
