South Korea launches K-Moonshot for AI-led science

·1 min read

South Korea is launching K-Moonshot as a national initiative to drive breakthroughs across science through Artificial Intelligence. The program is positioned as a government-led effort to speed discovery and strengthen research capacity by applying Artificial Intelligence tools to major scientific challenges.

The government has named 12 mission leads to direct the effort. Their role is to guide priority research themes and help connect scientific goals with Artificial Intelligence-enabled methods that can shorten research cycles and improve the pace of innovation.

South Korea is also activating NAIS to support the initiative and expand the use of Artificial Intelligence in research. The move is intended to create a more coordinated system for Artificial Intelligence-powered science, linking national priorities, research leadership, and technical infrastructure in a single program focused on faster and more ambitious scientific progress.
