Silicon Motion Unveils PCIe Gen5 and USB4 SSD Controllers at Computex 2025

·1 min read

Silicon Motion Technology Corporation, a leader in NAND flash controller technology, has announced the launch of its latest solid-state drive (SSD) controllers at Computex 2025. The company´s new offerings include the SM2504XT, an ultra-low power PCIe Gen 5 DRAM-less controller, and the SM2324, touted as the world´s first genuine single-chip portable SSD controller featuring USB4 support with integrated Power Delivery. These introductions underline Silicon Motion´s commitment to powering the next generation of energy-efficient and high-performance SSDs tailored for Artificial Intelligence-powered PCs, advanced gaming systems, and portable computing devices.

The SM2504XT leverages a 6 nm fabrication process from TSMC, delivering remarkable sequential read speeds of up to 11.5 GB/s and write speeds of up to 11.0 GB/s. It also reaches random IOPS of 1.7 million for reads and 2.0 million for writes, all while consuming less than 5 watts of power. This controller marks an 11% improvement in performance per watt compared to its predecessor, setting a new benchmark in power efficiency among PCIe Gen 5 SSD controllers targeted at clients and end users demanding reliable, scalable storage solutions for intensive workloads.

The SM2324 controller further distinguishes itself as the first true single-chip portable SSD controller capable of supporting USB4 and built-in Power Delivery, simplifying device design for plug-and-play external storage. With these products, Silicon Motion is reinforcing its leadership in the solid-state storage market and responding to the growing demand for compact, high-speed, and energy-conscious storage options as adoption of Artificial Intelligence technologies accelerates in consumer and enterprise markets. The innovations showcased at Computex 2025 emphasize the company’s focus on delivering solutions that meet the evolving needs of modern computing environments.
