Edmonds Civic Roundtable to Discuss AI´s Impact on Elections

The Edmonds Civic Roundtable (ECR) is set to host a discussion focused on the implications of artificial intelligence for voting processes in the United States. Scheduled for Monday, May 5, the meeting will kick off at 6:30 p.m. at the Edmonds Waterfront Center, located at 220 Railroad Ave., Edmonds. The event is free to attend, though prior registration via the Edmonds Civic Roundtable website is requested.

The session, titled ´From Bots to Ballots: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Local and National Elections,´ will feature Carey Schroyer as the keynote speaker. Schroyer serves as the Dean of STEM and director of the Edmonds College Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Center. She brings a rich background in higher education, strategic planning, and program development, notably having been involved in the launch of courses such as ´AI for Everybody´ and ´AI Ethics.´

Schroyer´s presentation will delve into the opportunities, risks, and realities that artificial intelligence introduces to modern voting systems. Attendees can expect to gain insights into how artificial intelligence technologies may influence election security, misinformation, voter engagement, and the broader democratic process. With increasing concerns about the use of technology in politics, this event aims to provide community members with an informed perspective on both the potentials and challenges of artificial intelligence in electoral contexts.
